halloween sequins & feathers

Oh, Halloween. Every year I look forward to you with both excitement and dread, because I know I will have to think of something better each year to top the last costume (see evidence here, here, and here). This year I stumbled upon the actual costume before thinking of the character. I found this crazy sequined getup and decided to be an Aging Showgirl, complete with terrible makeup, a bottle of Lillet, and decades of regret. She had her moment in the spotlight and now she's hanging on by a thread... and clearly I take this a bit too seriously.

orange & black

I'm extra excited about Halloween this year. I think it may have something to do with being on the east coast and experiencing the kind of seasonal shift that never occurs in California, the kind that makes me want to drink apple cider and buy lots of sweaters. I found this Halloween appropriate orange 1960's dress on Etsy recently while searching for a costume (which will be revealed later in the week). It's even more sparkly in person and makes me feel a bit like a fancy pumpkin, which seems about right. Although, I must admit it doesn't top the sparkly hilarity of this year's costume... But you'll just have to wait and see for yourself!

a very sensual halloween

Pants! Sneakers! A Bellagio fanny pack! This is my Wine Country Tourist costume, which is especially funny if you've ever lived in Northern California but also funny because look at those pants. I didn't even own a pair of sneakers until a few weeks when it dawned on me that perhaps my epic walks around San Francisco's hilly terrain would ruin my feet if I kept always wearing my vintage Ferragamos. And then I realized they were perfect for a costume involving mostly just the yuckiest clothes I could find! I've never felt so incredibly uncomfortable in an outfit before... you know, emotionally. But for the above photo it was well worth the psychological pain. And the chafing.

Lauren was Sandy from Grease... but I'm pretty sure my costume was still sexier.

That's my roommate Julia dressed as a Creepy Old Man or Woman (and wearing mostly things from my closet, ha).

My friend Thomas always goes full-on drag for Halloween and I love it.

Yeah, I went grocery shopping in my costume.

monster mash

I adore Halloween. Always have, (probably) always will. A few days ago I attended an amazing Halloween house party hosted by Isla and filled to the brim with friends and strangers. My costume was Future Me, or what I intend to look like in about 45 years. I always put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to costumes, as evidenced by this post of all my past Halloween looks. Last year's costume was a "Sexy" Pottery Teacher (the funny part being that it was incredibly un-sexy). I already have a wardrobe that for most people is like a one-stop costume shop, but it seems too easy to pull from my own clothes so I always try to put something together that I would never actually wear. That's a pretty high bar when I already wear lots of goofy things! So basically I'm just dressed crazy this time around... but don't be surprised if this 1960's silver robe I'm wearing makes a second appearance on Fancy Fine as a shortened fancy jacket.

I wore costume number two last night and there will quite possibly be a third one this evening, so expect even more photos soon! Happy Halloween to all you lovelies... tell me in the comments what your Halloween costumes are!
