new and blue

This pretty blue vintage dress reminds me of a jellyfish, which is exactly why I pounced on it when I saw it hanging in a shop window. I'm completely smitten with the many ruffled layers and pale color. My dress closet (yes, you read that correctly... a whole closet of just dresses) is getting rather packed so I've started hanging the newly acquired ones around my room. I'm not sure if it's looking too crazy in there yet but I do enjoy admiring such pretty things all in a row.

I've been planning some exciting adventures lately. First up is a trip to Reno this weekend for some thrift store hopping, swimming pool antics, and a much-needed heat wave. In a few weeks I'm finally going to Los Angeles, partly on a buying trip for my shop and partly for fun, after months of plans being made and then ruined at the last minute. So Southern Cali ladies, let me know if you want to meet up for champagne and girl talk! I'm also hoping to take a little weekend jaunt to Portland sometime in August. And lastly, the most exciting trip of all: New York in September (6th - 13th) for Fashion Week. I know I already mentioned it but I'm too toooo excited. I've been going a bit stir crazy lately so I'm looking forward to getting out of town and making new friends along the way.

thrifty

I love a good novelty print. The goofy hat print on this dress won me over at my neighborhood Goodwill, as did the ruffled collar and loose babydoll shape. I've been having some excellent luck at the thrift stores lately. Just today I purchased the perfect black leather cross-body satchel, a giant framed photo of two kittens wearing red bows around their necks (!), a sheer hot pink lingerie jumpsuit (I can't think of a better way to describe it, but it's insane), a furry fox purse, and a beautiful bright blue flapper-style dress that I plan on putting in the shop soon. I'm going to need a Fancy Fine warehouse soon!

swap meet

A few days ago I went to a clothing swap hosted by Lulu's. My date for the evening was the adorable Annalise and we were not prepared for the madness that ensued. I had never been to a swap before so I took advantage of the free wine bar in order to prepare myself for potential mayhem. And let me tell you, these ladies went WILD. I didn't even attempt to take anything because I didn't feel like using my elbows. Instead I took silly photos with Annalise, Erin and James (who I met for the first time that evening) and ate perhaps more than my fair share of hors d'oeuvres. It was fun watching all the girls running around and snatching things up but I guess in the end I'm more of a swap observer.

Thanks to Punky, Julie, and Stephanie for being such sweethearts and inviting me to join!

A trio of lovely bloggers: Erin, James and Annalise.

polka dot dreams

dress  vintage from 1385

It's been a while since I indulged in a bit of purikura madness, so I was happy to finally be reunited with my favorite photo booths. It was Lauren's first time and I'm happy to say she is now officially a purikura nerd. We took a few photos of our coordinating polka dots in between and spent the rest of our money on goofy cartoon bath mats and glittery nail stickers. Because hey, why not?

behind the scenes: fancy fine vintage

I did a photo shoot with my best girl Lauren yesterday for the shop. You might remember her from the Fancy Friends feature I did back in January (I promise I'll be doing more of those features very soon!) and the various other times her pretty mug has popped up on the blog. She is my partner in crime and the perfect Fancy Fine model. I'm really excited for this round of vintage, although I tend to feel that way about every update... I'm just so eager to share pretty things with you! We brought out all my favorite vintage hats and made several gigantic piles of shoes and shot all afternoon. And of course I can never resist a bit of "behind the scenes" documentation...

I'm keeping this dream dress for myself... It's hanging on the back of my door so I can stare at it constantly.

Hats & sunglasses, all from my own collection... although I will be selling the silver turban!

Currently reading. John Waters has been one of my own idols since 6th grade.

Donut battling with one of my vintage hats. Pretty sure she won.

Lauren brought a bunch of her own shoes to wear during the shoot.

This is what girls do when they hang out together, obviously.

What a charmer!

A few of my favorite books. Baton Twirling is a recent addition... it has the best photos ever.
