young girl get out of my mind

I sometimes try to imagine myself 20, 30, 40 years from now (a habit that I'm sure everyone has at least occasionally) and I always wonder mostly about Future Ashley's wardrobe. Will I still be running about in lace dresses with giant peter pan collars and colorful tights? All signs definitely point to yes. I've always hated the concept of "age appropriate" dressing, mostly because that does not leave me room to dress like a kid sometimes. And we all need to dress like kids every once in a while... if only to remind us that getting dressed in the morning can be silly in the best possible way.

My life lately could best be described as a wonderfully crazy whirlwind. I couldn't even begin to say why, especially because I've always valued keeping my personal life (for the most part) off the blog. But I will say that I've been smiling like an idiot way more than I usually do. This lovely Madewell dress (yes, the Alexa Chung one) suits my mood rather well. I love it dressed down with knee socks and flats but I also think it will look lovely all fancy-ed up for the holidays. I owe the curls to my awesome new set of hot rollers, something that had been on my wish list for a while. It's about time I started doing something new with my hair!

blouse  j. crew
romper  vintage

A bright yellow silk blouse, a purple satin romper (!), puke green nail polish. All I need is a pair of roller skates!

P.S. You might remember that closet tour video I posted a few months ago... here is the longer edit with some lovely music and even more dumb hand gestures!

This is a rather standard Fancy Fine outfit these days: some kind of swingy little dress paired with a cardigan, a-line coat, and my trusty Filson bag (which is usually beyond full). I may have to wear this dress again tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner, it seems like just the right kind of costume for stuffing myself full of food and then going to my favorite karaoke bar. I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving and I wish I could bring you all to karaoke with me!

heart like an orange

I don't wear green very often but I made an exception for this crazy silk blouse I found in Reno. I love that underneath a cardigan it looks quite demure but then worn alone with one shoulder pulled down it's actually quite... sultry. The amazing rusty orange lace skirt is part of a little 1960's suit that I unearthed at one of my favorite secret vintage shops (I'll never tell). One of these days I will wear the skirt and jacket together, really do it up secretary-style.
