I know Summer isn't over just yet (and thank goodness), but I'm already excited about a new season of flowers and foliage in some of my favorite colors. I'd like to think that this particular arrangement is directly inspired by my wardrobe, which as always is brimming with rust, mustard, and white.

august haze
A few images from the past few weeks. I've been busy, still roaming around like a gypsy, still sleeping on different couches, still getting my hands dirty with flowers and meeting so many new people constantly that my head is spinning in the best possible way. I read this article today about traveling and friendship and it has left a mark on me in a way that it probably wouldn't have just a few years ago...
"You travel to get somewhere, and you travel for the sake of adventure, for the scenery, for being in motion, for discovery, for being uprooted and at large, that nice expression that seems to suggest that liberty is an enlargement of the self, that you grow as your scope does. But maybe the final art of travel is arrival, the end of the story that eludes so many of us who are afloat or adrift, who believe there should be, must be, something next."

the rust trousers
brooch vintage
lace dress (worn as jacket) vintage
top aritzia
pants mango
shoes marais usa
As you may already know if you've been following this blog for any amount of time, I hardly ever wear pants. So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this dreamy rust hued pair, which might just be my ideal trousers. I'm excited to style them every which way. I have a feeling you will be seeing me in pants a bit more often now...

grass & pods
This week's "just for fun" floral arrangement, featuring some strange green pods that I found growing from a tree. Does anyone know what these are? I love this particular color palette, with the soft yellows, greens, creams, and just a teensy bit of rust hiding in there, much like colors I would put together in an outfit.

clippings
A lil' one, made entirely of clippings from my tiny cutting garden I recently planted and a few foraged bits from the side of the road. I found the cute vase at a flea market and it's the perfect size for playing around with smaller scale arrangements like this one. I have a feeling my vase collection is going to become completely bonkers now...

love in a mist
I think Love in a Mist is my new favorite flower, it's so weird and fuzzy and I love that I can use the really long stems in an interesting ways to create shape. I keep seeing it growing on the side of the road here, since pretty much everything growing on the side of the road in California is amazing. It takes quite a bit of willpower not to snip every little bit that I see!

loosely
It doesn't get much better than a bunch of fantastic roses straight from my grandma's garden, especially when she says that I can cut as many as my little heart desires.

garden variety
It's been over a week since I moved back to California, alone. It was a difficult decision to make, leaving behind a piece of my heart, a best friend, someone wonderful who I know will always remain in my life. It wasn't born from anything other than a need to live this life on my own terms and feel vital again, to have stimuli beyond what a rural town can provide. I need the California sun, I need to create things with my hands, I need to be near my family and my friends, I need all of the fast paced blur of the city. Flowers are good for a broken heart. I forage for things, I cut things from the garden, and arranging everything together somehow makes me feel like I'm putting all the pieces back together. It will be a while before I feel as warm and colorful as these flowers, but I am on my way.
It was sad to leave but it does feel good to be back.

rust, mint & lace
scarf vintage
dress (worn as vest) c/o mod dolly
dress vintage from mill street vintage
A favorite color combo: rust, mint and cream. I love this corduroy dress because it snaps all the way open, which means I can wear it as a vest too (and I've been obsessed with vests lately). I have also been revisiting an old obsession of mine, earrings. It seems that every ten years I get excited about earrings again. The bigger and weirder the better! Too bad you can hardly see them because my mop of hair is always down and covering my ears.
