fancy locks

After talking about cutting my hair and fretting over it for far too long, I finally just did it. On my lunch break at work. Luckily for me I work with amazingly talented freelance hair stylists every day, and one of these lovely folks offered to cut my locks in exchange for cocktails and many thankful hugs. It's a crazy thing to go from waist long hair to this new shoulder length 'do, but I am super happy with my decision. It was time for a change! I still keep making these long haired lady gestures, like trying to flip it all over one shoulder (channeling Cher probably), and then feeling silly because there is nothing really to flip. It feels amazing to have all that weight gone, especially during these sweaty sticky summer days. I loved my long hair and how it sort of became part of my identity over the years, but I'm glad I got over it and went for something new. It was about damn time.

tchotchkes

A few little bits and pieces around my apartment: my new yellow cart (which I'm turning into a makeshift bar), a rapidly growing collection of plants and vintage pots to put them in, a pretty 1960's beaded cocktail dress I found at Brimfield (fresh from the dry cleaner across the street who probably thinks I'm the world's biggest nut), and the usual silly tchotchkes that I can't seem to stop collecting.

sponsor fancy fine in july!

The time has come, Fancy Fine is currently accepting new sponsors for the month of July! If you have a vintage shop, handmade line, or some other interesting project you would like to promote on this blog please get in touch with me for rates and details at hi@ashleyording.com. My rates are affordable and I love working with businesses both small and large as long as the aesthetic jives with my own, so don't be shy!

shop showcase: capsule vintage

Capsule Vintage has quickly become one of my favorite go-to vintage shops on Etsy, and you know it's because of all those lace and floral dresses calling my name. The lovely curly haired proprietress, Sonja, is a friend of mine from the west coast and a face that I dearly miss. She's also a fellow collector of pretty, feminine pieces with an eye towards the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Lucky for both of us she is offering 15% off the entire shop for Fancy Fine readers using the code FANCYFINE15! A lovely treat, and just in time to snag a few goodies for the upcoming holiday (doesn't someone need to wear this dress to a 4th of July picnic?!). These gorgeous photos are from the current Capsule Vintage lookbook and make me desperately miss Northern California with its perfect, perfect light. At least I can live vicariously through Sonja!
