I found this amazing 1940's dress at one of my favorite antique stores in Petaluma (a small town near where I grew up). I was admiring the lovely shape and color of it when I noticed a small photograph attached to the tag of a smiling lady wearing the very same dress (and some rather awesome glasses). On the back was written "11-6-1966." I tried the dress on and it fit wonderfully, but the best part was knowing that I was also getting this little bit of history. I love that the previous owner was still wearing this frock years after she bought it. I wish every piece of vintage I found came with a photograph (or a whole scrapbook!) of whoever loved it before.
The previous owner. I wonder where she was going that day, if she wore the dress a lot, if perhaps it was her favorite...

That is so awesome! As much as I love the lady in the photo, I think the dress fits you much better. Looks like it was meant to be yours after all. :D
XOXO
that's so special! gorgeous dress.
Beautiful dress and it looks amazing on you. And having the photograph of the original owner wearing it is a treasure in itself. :)
How wonderful!! I love the provenance--what a treasure~* & may the dress make you as happy as the woman in the photo appeared to be wearing it!

aw special photo & story, smiles. just another reason to dig the vintage.
It's so rare to know any of the history behind the vintage clothing we wear so it's sweet that you have a photo of the former owner wearing yours! You look great in a 1940s silhouette and I like the way you paired it with boots and a little fascinator. The color palette would also work for any season!
lovely post! I love the pictures... and the dress is so pretty++
You are so pretty and the dress is gorgeous!
This is stunning. I love the editorial qualities of the photos- all gives you the vintagy feel to it.

I love that you got a little piece of the history of the dress with it! :) It's a beautiful dress too--I really love the midriff shaping.
What a beautiful dress! It fits you like a dream. Also I love the pictures with your cat x

beautiful dress, looks wonderful on you
I love your blog! You such an adorable inspiring style!
That would be amazing if all vintage clothes came with photos! Although maybe it would only make us more curious.
Amazing! I love the idea of pinning a photo of yourself in the dress with it - or who ever cleaned it up and sold it off - such a strange but wonderful thing to do!
So, so perfect! The dress is gorgeous but having that little bit extra info on the history makes you love it even more!
That's so awesome that they included a picture of the previous owner!!
i love this! it really would be amazing if every piece of vintage clothing came with a photo or a little story attached. it would bring some kind of closure - seeing the face of the person who once loved it as much as you do now.
oh wow, i can't believe the dress came with a photo of the previous owner wearing it, that's such a lovely idea of the store owners to do that. it really adds something extra to the dress, you look lovely wearing it! :)
