reno part two

dress  h&m
cardigan  thrifted (it gets cold in those casinos!)
necklace  bell jar
shoes  chelsea crew

People in Reno are incredibly friendly. I was constantly charmed by everyone from the taxi drivers to the antique store owners, all of them curious to chat with outsiders (and we certainly did look like outsiders). Peter and I decided it would be fun to have Reno aliases for the weekend so we pretended to be Violet and Talbot Careno. I don't think we decided on much else past the names as we were much too busy consuming buffet food and scavenging for treasures.

I wore this outfit to the karaoke bar we serendipitously discovered on the second night and proceeded to take over for many hours. I sang lots of old country songs (Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline are my favorites) and tried a few songs by Sam Cooke and The Drifters. My karaoke choices usually lean towards the older stuff (which is mostly what I listen to in general), but I did thrown in "Killing Me Softly" by the Fugees because someone had to sing it. Although that's not even really new anymore, is it? I certainly don't have my finger on the pulse, musically speaking. Maybe that's why the friends I make in karaoke bars are often over the age of 50.

I have one more Reno post coming up with photos from my film camera! Karaoke action included!

fave pic: you're under the vacancy sign sitting on the fence. didn't roberta flack originally sing killing me softly in 1971? what kind of buffet food? :)

I like that one too. And yes, Roberta did sing it first! I was only just referring to the Fugees version of it, which is sadly way more popular (even though the original is so lovely). It's just funny that mid-90's music is what I consider "new" at a karaoke bar. ;)

Sounds like you had a good time, I love visiting Kitsch places but not sure what Reno's UK equivalent would be? Cute dress, too. Sally x

I'm in love with all your Reno trip photos, especially all the vintage signage and your outfits! I am so jealous of your BAGS of thrift finds, it's what I always dream of when I visit a new town/city. Now I want to plan a special trip just to shop in Reno!
