a few favorite dresses

photos by Cecilia Austin

A few treasures from my wardrobe, all vintage or thrifted. I am always looking for lovely dresses to add to my collection, no special occasion necessary. I keep a pretty open mind when it comes to colors and prints, but I often gravitate towards things with a waist and romantic detailing. And lace, of course, is always the first thing I spot when I'm shopping. I recently counted my dresses and I won't even share with you the number... let's just say it was pretty embarrassing and says a lot about my priorities in life! When I'm an old lady I will be forced to open some kind of museum for all the craziness I have spent my pennies on. The Fancy Fine Fashion Institution, perhaps?

wowza! you have some really great dresses- i especially like that sheer black one! and now i don't feel so bad about MY closet ;) i find that it helps to use the term "collector" sounds more sophisticated than pack rat or hoarder as my husband likes to say!!

Yes, "collector" has a much finer ring to it! ;)

I absolutely love the white lacy one, with the pattern that looks like scales. How unusual!

Oh my, these are all so lovely! I share the same dress obsession. I go thrifting all the time and I just buy everything I love. Most of the time I regret it at the end of the month when I'm out of money again and I start to think that it's really unnecessary to own so many dresses.

Someone on formspring asked me how much dresses I own but I haven't even dared to count!!

I love dresses, so I understand your addiction. These are all stunning dresses. Do you have a lot of closet space? Because it sure looks like it! Jealous. I have a walk in closet, but only one side has a bar for hangers. Stupid. You sure love lace! I like the dress you wore to the meet up at Nicole's! I just got something similar to that at Alameda Flea Market for $5 :)

oh man a museum would be amazing. i sure hope i have children or grandchildren who will cherish them as much as i and keep them in the family! my mom gave all her awesome 70s clothes to my older cousins in the 80s. they probably threw them out. i do have a couple of things, like an awesome denim vest that she painted the grateful dead head on the back of.

I went thrifting today with sweaters and a coat in mind, and obviously walked away with a dress. I think I just need to factor in an automatic dress onto everything I buy. Coat+dress, tights+dress, electricity bill+dress. Gets a bit expensive though!

Those dresses are beautiful, but the photography itself is very charming.

I love this post, and the last one too. I am a bit obsessed with looking at how people co-ordinate their closets, maybe beacause i have such a tiny (& messy) room. I actually dream of building a proper walk in wardrobe with shelves for bags & shoes, i am such a geek! x

wowee! you have some gorgeous finds miss. i especially lust after that creamy-scalloped-lace-cap-sleeved treasure and the gold-beady number at the end...

i have to say, i've been creeping your blog for a few weeks now and you have just the most darling yet epic style out there! keep it up!

PS i too have an obsession with cheesy asian sticker booths...

such amazing dresses!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL! I recently ordered something like 6 dresses at once on-line. I still feel guilty about it. We should make our own Dress Addicts Anonymous group.

your wardrobe is a treasure where they can later remember all the beauty in you and in the things you wear.it is a love thing, not a madness thing, wanting to keep it
